This system is designed to interlink air filled chambers so that a personalised fit can be gained by the wearer of the helmet. This is however the secondary benefit of the system as its primary objective is to reduce the impact energy being transferred to the wearers’ head if they are struck by an object be it a bat, ball or stick. The unique layering system which Ayrtek™ has developed over the last 12 months has been proven to work in BSI laboratory condition when tested against the currently marketed models of cricket helmet. By utilising the technology on both the liner of the shell as well as the carbon fibre/Kevlar outer shell, has proven the impact being transferred to the head form within the helmet is 300% less impact than those being sold in the market and online currently.

A cricket helmet was Ayrtek's first point for development as the companies' personnel have a large degree of expertise in this field and we felt that the technology and materials were largely stagnant in this sport.

BSI testing has proved the effectiveness of the A.C.I.S. When our product was tested against other marketed helmets, Ayrtek™ helmets proved to absorb 300% more impact than any other shell. 60% of the reading that occurred during testing fell below the minimum reading that the machines were calibrated to record. The other shells in the market failed to reach any reading on the impact sites specified in the test procedure that fell under this barrier.

Our first field of innovation was the A.C.I.S. technology, however when looking at having this incorporated into current cricket shell designs, we realised that it wouldn’t stand out from the other competitors when placed on a shelf or display in the retail environment. To ensure that the technology within the helmet is noticed the outer shell needed to be evolved in terms of design and materials to match the inner liner. The current material being used in cricket helmets weren’t offering the best protection for the wearer and were very dated compared to the technological advancements that have been made since their first invention. Helmets dating back as far as 1994 were still using the same shape, mould and design and in Ayrtek’s view it was time to move the sport forward with a new cutting edge design with different aesthetics and properties.
It was for this reason the outer shell was designed from concept through to prototyping and production in order to improve on the physical properties and appearance of the stereotype cricket helmets. By using a central rib running over the top of the helmet and flaring the sides of it we have added integral strength to the shell to give protect from any angle it should be struck from. An elongated peak has ensured a rigid structure to avoid collapsing upon receiving an impact so that the wearers face is better protected. With Kevlar reinforcements inserted at the side mounting plates and vents it will ensure that the structure is capable of taking a head on impact and not suffering from deformation of shape when doing so.
By utilising Carbon fibre and Kevlar technology we have shaved up to 40% in weight off of other market competitors and also made it stronger in the same process. This coupled with the A.C.I.S. has enabled us to offer something to the public domain that will not only ensure their safety but will allow a custom fit to any head form as well as reducing the weight of the helmet being worn. Another benefit of the carbon fibre/Kevlar/E-Glass shell is that it can be custom finished to any desired look. This includes custom graphics as well as decal stickers which several sponsors have expressed great interest in seizing upon the opportunity to ensure that their company appears in every shot of a batsman/wicket keeper when in the media (as its not often a player appears without their head in the shot).
With this in mind we are looking for our next sport to focus our attention on so that we can use our knowledge base and manufacturing links to utilise the technology that we have as a company.
Ayrtek™ offers three types of helmet in a variety of materials from polymers to cutting edge composites such as carbon fibre. These come in varying degrees of weight catering for your amateur weekend player up to the modern professional elite.
High-Impact ABS
With a high impact ABS injection moulded outer shell incorporating Ayrtek’s unique and thoroughly modern look, the helmet comes with the option of titanium or steel grill.
Fibreglass
The traditional style material used for the outer shell formed from fibre glass. This offers an alternative to the high impact ABS helmet which has the option of a titanium or steel grill.
Carbon Fibre
Top end protection with minimal weight. Ayrtek™’s unique outer shell utilises the use of strong ultra light composites which combined with its ground-breaking liner gives an innovative helmet option to the top end of the market
